Isophase is the third album from Trigona aka Rob Shiels, a psychedelic rock multi-instrumentalist from Queensland, Australia.

Building upon the dynamism of previous Trigona releases, Isophase is a more refined offering, harnessing the arrangement and recording skills that Rob has honed in the studio since his previous release.

Named after a Japanese bullet train, Nozomi starts off the album, propelled by driving bass and background synths, heightening a feeling of movement and speed.

Multi-layered Just like Saturn’s weaving guitars and bouncing bass are accompanied by a psychedelic reverse guitar breakdown, panned side-to-side to great effect.

A heavier track, Titan's Gate closes out Side 1, packing a punch with slide guitar, wah guitar lead and a slide guitar solo to boot.

The album’s heavier arc is continued on the first track of Side 2, with Orbital Way’s groovy, chugging riff giving way to a chaotic backwards guitar lead.

The meditative chant that kicks off Continuum is a counterpoint to the controlled freakout that follows, with wah-saturated lead guitar - reminiscent of Acid Mothers Temple - and chaotic, swirling tones ping-ponging across the stereo field.

Isophase ends with Redshift, a nine-minute bliss out of multi-tracked guitars, and choppy and droning guitar layers. The bass and drums hold the track together, with background mellotron rounding out the mix.
